
Dr. Amy Burns
Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist
Dr. Burns is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), the regulatory body for Clinical Psychologists, and is a Full Practitioner Member of the British Psychological Society’s (BPS) Division of Neuropsychology.
Amy is also listed on the BPS Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists, as well as being an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society.
She completed her undergraduate degree in the North East in 1999 and followed this by obtaining a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Lancaster University in 2004. In 2008, Amy also obtained the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN).
Dr. Burns has worked in the NHS for over 25 years and has significant experience of working with people with a range of neurological conditions, in acute, outpatient, and community settings. Alongside her NHS role, Amy has also worked in private practice since 2020.
Amy’s special interests are in client and staff wellbeing, working with staff groups and families, and providing rehabilitation in the outdoors.
This includes using a range of therapeutic models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Amy also has expertise in supporting people who have experienced traumatic events, she is a qualified Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) practitioner.
Her extensive experience also includes delivering assessment and rehabilitation for individuals with acquired and traumatic brain injury and neurological conditions, both individually and working with teams.
Amy is an experienced clinical supervisor and is on the Register for Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (British Psychological Society) with extensive experience of supervising Clinical Psychology trainees and other professionals.
